Wake County, North Carolina:
As Christmas quickly approaches, so does a season that can be the source of much joy; however, it is also a season that can serve as a reminder of the uncertain financial times we are experiencing. More people than ever are finding themselves without jobs and without a way to provide for their families this Christmas. This is the Salvation Army’s busiest time of the year as they seek to provide yet another opportunity to bring hope to the residents of Wake County.
Since Christmas is upon us, it is again time to register families for our annual Angel Tree Program. Salvation Army will be at a new location this year - 2407 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh beginning Monday, October 26 and continuing through Saturday, October 31, taking applications from families to be a part of the program. Monday through Friday tickets will be given out from 9-11 am and again from 1-3 pm. On Saturday, tickets will be distributed only from 9-11am.
The program helps provide Christmas gifts to those families who are in financial need with children ages 0-12. Participating families will be registered for a stocking, new clothing, and the Toy Shop. The gifts are distributed mid-December, in order for children to experience a joy-filled Christmas morning. Last year, through our Christmas program, over 4500 children received gifts and over 30,000 new toys and gifts were distributed. Consider adopting an angel, a family, or donating toys to our toy shop to help bring the joy of Christmas to even more children this year.
Since Christmas is our busiest time of the year, we need the help of the community more than ever to meet the needs of people in Wake County. Volunteers are needed to help register families for the Angel Tree Program, distribute the gifts in December, stuff stockings full of toys and treats for the kids as well as assist with the Bell Ringing Campaign and many other Christmas programs. Last year, over 2500 volunteers helped make the Christmas season a success at Salvation Army.
If you would like further information about applying for this program, making a donation or volunteering, please contact their main office at 919.834.6733 or visit them at 215 South Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601.
About the Salvation Army
William Booth began The Salvation Army in 1865, when he left the Methodist ministry to begin a mission in the poverty-stricken slums of London. Booth’s mission chose to take the message of hope and salvation to destitute people who needed it the most. Many of Booth’s first converts to Christianity were rejected by traditional churches due to their pasts, but Booth still continued to support them spiritually and to challenge them to save others just as they had saved themselves. Today, The Salvation Army serves through a network of more than 9,000 US based units. One of the largest charitable and social service organizations in the world, The Salvation Army has been helping those in need since 1865. The Salvation Army provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and safe housing to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, and many more services to assist those in need. Locally, The Salvation Army has been serving the people of Wake County since 1887 and maintains a program and services investment of 91 cents for every dollar received from the community. Its Wake County headquarters is located at 215 South Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
