CURTIS MEDIA GROUP RADIO STATIONS TO HOLD TORNADO BENEFIT FOR THE SALVATION ARMY THIS THURSDAY
The Salvation Army Serves Thousands of Individuals Affected by Storms

WAKE COUNTY, NC (Wednesday, April 20, 2011) Curtis Media Group, the Triangle’s largest radio broadcaster, has announced it will mobilize all of its local stations to raise money for victims of the tornadoes that swept through the region over the weekend. Dubbed “Care on the Air,” five (5) Curtis stations will broadcast their appeal in unison this Thursday, April 21st, from noon to 2:00PM.  Proceeds will go to benefit relief efforts through The Salvation Army of Wake County. Stations involved include the following: 94.7 WQDR (Country), NewsRadio 680 WPTF (News and Talk), 96rock (WBBB-FM, Classic Rock), La Ley 96.9 (Hispanic) and Pulse 102 FM (Pop Hits).

The stations will broadcast live from area Wal-Mart stores. Volunteers are needed to accept donations at local Wal-Mart stores.  Listeners who cannot donate in person can log onto any of the radio stations’ Web sites and contribute there. Every dollar raised supports the tornado relief efforts of the Salvation Army of Wake County.

The following is a list of Curtis Media Group radio stations and the Wal-Mart locations where they’ll be broadcasting this Thursday, April 21st, from noon to 2:00PM:

841 East Gannon Avenue, Zebulon (96rock)
1051 East Broad Street, Fuquay-Varina (94.7 WQDR)
7016 GB Alford Way, Holly Springs (NewsRadio 680 WPTF)
1725 New Hope Church Road, Raleigh (La Ley 96.9)
5141 N.C. Highway 42 West, Garner (Pulse 102FM)

The Salvation Army is also working with other local corporations and organizations to raise support for those who have been impacted by the storms. Portions of WRAL-TV’s Telethon on Wednesday, April 20th will benefit The Salvation Army’s efforts. At Garner’s “American Idol” viewing party on Thursday night, donations will be taken to go towards the disaster relief. Also, The Carolina Railhawks have contributed free tickets for anyone who makes a donation towards the disaster through The Salvation Army, and Food Lion continues to donate water to be given to victims and families in need.

As of Tuesday evening, April 19, The Salvation Army had served almost 2000 meals in the neighborhoods most affected by the storms, aided 400 families through the distribution of diapers, hygiene kits, formula, and other immediate needs on site, and distributed over 100 food and clothing vouchers to those in need. A team of 20 volunteers was sent out on Wednesday morning to assess damage and needs in different areas of Wake County, as well as distribute relief items.

Currently, the biggest need is for financial and food donations that will be given directly to families who have been affected by the storms. These donations -as well as other items such as baby formula, diapers, hygiene products, and other similar goods - can be brought to facilities at 215 South Person St. in downtown Raleigh.
