CHRISTMAS BELLS ARE RINGING: THE SALVATION ARMY OF THE TRIANGLE AREA TO KICKOFF BELL RINGING AND ANGEL TREE CAMPAIGN
Miss North Carolina and “Stormy” to Help Kickoff Season This Thursday
TRIANGLE AREA, NC (Tuesday, November 15, 2011) – The Salvation Army of the Triangle Area (Wake, Durham, Orange & Person Counties) will kickoff its two major holiday campaigns this Thursday, November 17, with the help of Miss North Carolina, “Stormy” from the Carolina Hurricanes, and members of the Raleigh City Council. The event will be held in front of the Wake County Courthouse at 316 Fayetteville Street in Raleigh at 12 o’clock Noon.
The kickoff marks the beginning of the traditional Red Kettle Campaign, as volunteers and representatives begin “ringing the bell” for holiday donations to The Salvation Army at stores all across the Triangle area. It will also be the start of Angel Trees at malls around the region, including Crabtree Valley Mall, Triangle Town Center, Cary Towne Center, and the Sears at Southpoint. Here, members of the community can adopt “angels” and purchase new clothing or toy items for a child in need.
This year, the need is greater than ever as The Salvation Army has seen a record-breaking number of families sign up for its Christmas assistance program. In Wake County alone, over 7,700 children were registered for the Angel Tree by family members. This is an increase of more than 500 children from last year’s program. Donations in the Red Kettles will go to help support these families in need this holiday season.
Thousands of volunteers will help “Keep the Bell Ringing” this holiday, staffing over 50 kettle locations across the Triangle. For more information on volunteering for the Red Kettle Campaign or the Angel Tree Program, visit www.keepthebellringing.org.
