DOUBLE YOUR MONEY

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. - The Steward’s Fund of Raleigh, has issued a challenge to The Salvation Army of Wake County: Raise $100,000 by May 15, 2008, and the amount will be doubled. The monies received will aid The Salvation Army in providing crisis assistance with utilities and rent, food, and clothing, as well as youth care and development.

To meet the challenge, The Salvation Army of Wake County must engage three specific areas of donors: 1) New donors must be recruited to give; 2) Existing donors must increase the level of giving; 3) Lapsed donors of two years or more must be reengaged. With the help of dedicated Advisory Board members and loyal donors, The Salvation Army needs to meet the challenge.

Each year, The Salvation Army of Wake County makes the most of the funds it receives. In the 2006-2007 operating year, $0.91 of every dollar was used in direct service to the needy. Funds raised through the challenge grant will also be put to direct use.

With a gift of $100,000, we can Provide 1,667 nights of safe shelter for women and children; Feed 20,000 hungry individuals in our soup line; Stock 4,000 home pantry's with groceries; Teach teamwork to 1,333 children through athletic scholarships; Fight homelessness by preventing 1,000 evictions; Keep the heat, lights and water on for 1,000 households; Change Lives!

In order to assist in the challenge, monies donated to The Salvation Army of Wake County must be designated for The Steward’s Fund Challenge. About The Salvation Army
William Booth began The Salvation Army in 1865, when he left the Methodist ministry to begin a mission in the poverty-stricken slums of London. Booth's mission chose to take the message of hope and salvation to destitute people who needed it the most. Many of Booth's first converts to Christianity were rejected by traditional churches due to their pasts, but Booth still continued to support them spiritually and to challenge them to save others just as they had saved themselves. Today The Salvation Army serves through a network of more than 9,000 US based units. One of the largest charitable and social service organizations in the world, The Salvation Army has been helping those in need since 1865. The Salvation Army provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and safe housing to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, and many more services to assist those in need. Locally, The Salvation Army has been serving the people of Wake County since 1887 and maintains a program and services investment of 91 cents for every dollar received from the community. Its Wake County headquarters is located at 215 South Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Its Mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
