RBC CENTURA REACHES OUT TO HELP SALVATION ARMY REACH MORE

RBC Centura recently announced a $20,000 donation to kick off the Salvation Army of Wake County’s capital campaign to raise funds for the purchase of a new building that, once renovated, will serve as the organization’s new shelter for women and children, social ministries outreach center, and County command.
“One of our customers told us about the campaign,” said Rob Hammersley, RBC Centura regional president, Commercial Banking. “Knowing all the good that the Salvation Army does in our community, we knew we wanted to be involved – and we’re excited to be the ones to kick-start the greater campaign.”
The Salvation Army recently completed the purchase of a 41,000 sq. ft. building near the intersection of Capital Boulevard and I-440. While the organization does not plan to offer services at the new building until 2009, there is a lot of fundraising, program development and general work to be done in preparation.
Beyond the well-known Red Kettle Bell Ringers during the holidays, the Salvation Army also runs a variety of other programs that include financial assistance, food distribution, a clothing closet, an emergency shelter for women and children and youth programs ranging from after-school care to summer day camps.
“We have been blessed with a long history of supporting the Wake County community since 1887, and we look forward to being able to increase our services with this new facility,” said Major Smith, commanding officer. ”There’s no doubt that we have a lot of work to do before we move into the new space, but the generous gift from RBC Centura is a great start toward our ultimate goal.”

About The Salvation Army
William Booth began The Salvation Army in 1865, when he left the Methodist ministry to begin a mission in the poverty-stricken slums of London. Booth's mission chose to take the message of hope and salvation to destitute people who needed it the most. Many of Booth's first converts to Christianity were rejected by traditional churches due to their pasts, but Booth still continued to support them spiritually and to challenge them to save others just as they had saved themselves. Today The Salvation Army serves through a network of more than 9,000 US based units. One of the largest charitable and social service organizations in the world, The Salvation Army has been helping those in need since 1865. The Salvation Army provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and safe housing to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, and many more services to assist those in need. Locally, The Salvation Army has been serving the people of Wake County since 1887 and maintains a program and services investment of 91 cents for every dollar received from the community. Its Wake County headquarters is located at 215 South Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Its Mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
