STOCK OUR SHELVES FOOD PANTRY drive

The Salvation Army of Wake County is in need of nonperishable food items to stock its Food Assistance Pantry. The Food Assistance Pantry is used to provide Wake County residents in need with nonperishable food items. The Food Pantry is stocked using donations from individuals, companies, area food drives, and weekly purchases from the NC Food Bank. During the summer months, donations of food items decrease while requests for assistance increase. With many children out of school, parents find it difficult to provide the additional meals that are traditionally provided at school. Also, parents are spending more money during the summer for day care and summer day camp programs for their children. In June of this year The Salvation Army of Wake County increased its assistance limits from 20 to 25 individuals twice per week. The increased level of assistance coupled with the summer slump has had a major impact on our food supply.

The Salvation Army is calling on individuals, business, churches, civic clubs, and all others to donate nonperishable food items. Additionally, The Salvation Army has collection barrels available for office food drives.

Suggested Items: Canned fruits, vegetables, meats, and soups; Dry goods such as rice, cereal, pasta, crackers, and powdered milk; Peanut butter jellies, etc.

Nonperishable food items can be donated at The Salvation Army, 215 South Person Street, Raleigh 27601. Call 919-834-6733 or visit www.KeepTheBellRinging.org for more information on our programs and services including the Food Pantry program.

About The Salvation Army
William Booth began The Salvation Army in 1865, when he left the Methodist ministry to begin a mission in the poverty-stricken slums of London. Booth's mission chose to take the message of hope and salvation to destitute people who needed it the most. Many of Booth's first converts to Christianity were rejected by traditional churches due to their pasts, but Booth still continued to support them spiritually and to challenge them to save others just as they had saved themselves. Today The Salvation Army serves through a network of more than 9,000 US based units. One of the largest charitable and social service organizations in the world, The Salvation Army has been helping those in need since 1865. The Salvation Army provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and safe housing to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled, and many more services to assist those in need. Locally, The Salvation Army has been serving the people of Wake County since 1887 and maintains a program and services investment of 91 cents for every dollar received from the community. Its Wake County headquarters is located at 215 South Person Street, Raleigh, NC 27601. Its Mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
