


At the Salvation Army of Wake County, we offer hope and comfort to all people in need through numerous assistance programs and services. All programs operate on a walk-in basis; no appointments are made.
A portion of these services are made possible by our funding partner, Wake County SmartStart, an organization that ensures children are prepared for
success in school and life.
Crisis Assistance Programs:
Financial Assistance: Monday, Tuesday,
Wednesday & Thursday. Sign-up
begins at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the first 15 people.
Clothing Closet: Friday. Sign-up begins at 9:00 a.m. and is open to the first 25 people.
Food Pantry: Tuesday & Thursday. Sign up begins at 12:30 p.m. and is open to the first 25 people.
Soupline: Monday-Friday 5:00-6:00 p.m.
Financial
Assistance
The Salvation Army will pay up to $100.00 toward a utility bill, rent, or prescription for medication if the following requirements are met (no assistance with rent deposits or first month’s rent):
1. North Carolina Identification Card or valid photo ID from another state / country
2. Social Security Card or immigrant identification card
3. Proof of currently working 30 hours per week, or that you are currently receiving social security
benefits, unemployment pay or you have been laid off within the past 6 months
4. Proof of a rent / mortgage payment at the address on your bill. (accepted items are: recent rent receipt,
current lease, letter on letterhead from landlord, canceled check or money order receipt)
5. Final notice for a utility bill, proof of utility deposit or Court Eviction papers for rental assistance.
The $100.00 will be paid after the person receiving assistance has met all other obligations toward the payment of the bill. (e.g. if the amount due is $125, then the client must pay $25 before we release our $100).
*To apply for financial assistance, bring the above documents Monday - Thursday, between 8:30am-9am. The first 15 walk-ins are seen on those days.
**Financial assistance is provided one time per 12-month period.
Clothing Closet
The Salvation Army provides new and used clothing on Fridays at 9:00am. The first 25 people are served with a voucher to our Family Store.
Requirements are a Social Security Card for or Tax ID Card for each member of the family needing clothes, and a North Carolina ID, photo ID from another state / country, Cornerstone ID, or Prison ID of the person shopping receiving the clothing voucher. Each family member may receive up to 10 items of clothing per visit. Shelter residents and homeless individuals may attend monthly. All others may come once every three months.
*Clothing assistance is provided one time per 3-month period. Homeless clients may receive clothing assistance one time per week
Food Pantry
The Salvation Army provides food bags to individuals and families on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:00pm. Families or individuals may come for a food ticket anytime between 8:30am and 1pm. Food is limited to 25 households, so we draw ticket numbers by the lottery system when there are more than 25 people waiting. Participants receive 1-3 bags of groceries, and may receive food assistance once every 3 months.
The requirements for this program are Social Security Cards / Tax ID cards for household members, a NC Identification Card or valid photo ID from another state / country, and a recent rent receipt or proof of wake county residence. Individuals or families must have a permanent residence to receive the food bags and not be living in a shelter facility.
*Food assistance is provided one time per 3-month period.
Soupline
The evening soup line is open to the public Monday through Friday, from 5:00pm until 6:00pm. No identification information is required to receive a meal through the soup line our soup kitchen is open to all members of the community.
*Soupline is available to all individuals nightly.
Residential Services:
Emergency Shelter for Women and Children
The Women and Children’s Emergency Shelter is a 34-bed facility
focusing on homeless women with children and those fleeing domestic
violence. A waiting list is maintained for women with children.
Single women are not placed on the waiting list.
Women with children looking for shelter in the immediate future should call and
request to speak to a caseworker to be place on the list for admission. Women
with children who are currently homeless are urged to call or visit the shelter
at 4:30 p.m. for overnight only admission.
Our shelter is for women and children only. We do not admit men or boys over the age of 12.
Seasonal Assistance Programs:
Christmas Cheer: Participating families will be registered for a Christmas Stocking, the Angel Tree, and the Toy Shop. This program helps provide Christmas gifts for children ages 0 - 12. Registration information updated seasonally.
Coats For The Children:By partnering with WRAL-TV5,
Jiffy Lube and Capital Bank,The Salvation Army distributes warm winter coats, hats and gloves along with vouchers for purchases of new winter clothing from October through February of each year. [ more information... ]
