Joyce White Memorial Fund
The Joyce White Memorial Fund, established following the overwhelming response to the "My Holiday Wish" project, serves to provide for the basic needs of families during their stay at The Salvation Army's Wake County Shelter for Women and Children. The Fund also provides up to 1 year of financial support for families successfully transitioning out of the shelter and into stable housing.
Who is Joyce White:
Joyce White was a housing monitor at our Emergency Shelter for Women and Children from 1994 until she passed from cancer in 2003. She was the most loved, respected and motivating monitor to work with the Army. Joyce was committed to the residents, the children and the Salvation Army. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, one son, two sisters and five brothers.
Purpose:
- Fund existing and establish new Support Circles for residents and transitioning families;
- Based on a match program, The Fund will provide financial support to residents following their move from the shelter to stable housing (rent/security deposit, utility deposit, first month rent, first month utility payment, furnishing and household necessities);
- Provide for group shelter outings to area events such as museums, movies, and plays;
- Provide for educational materials and learning tools for children.
