The Salvation Army Community Center (SACC) was established to provide youth ages 5-12 a safe, structured environment where they can learn, have fun and grow to be productive citizens. The Community Center offers educational, recreational and spiritual resources to provide a holistic ministry to meet the physical, social, academic and spiritual needs of the youth we serve. Our center includes a game room, homework room, computer lab, gymnasium, chapel, soccer/baseball field, classrooms for Sunday School and Bible Study, fellowship hall and other meeting areas.

Each program is designed to provide the youth we serve with the opportunity to learn more about God, as Christian principals are implemented in every aspect of the Center. SACC also strives to increase positive social skills within the children through recreational opportunities. Furthermore, we help our youth excel academically through tutoring and other activities that better prepare them for End of Grade Testing and success in life. Camp Walter Johnson
Since 1974, Camp Walter Johnson has touched the lives of 55,000 + underprivileged children and it all started with an interesting story and a generous donation.

This Salvation Army Camp began with a generous land donation from a local Denton, N. C. resident, Walter Johnson. He gave The Salvation Army 143 acres and an additional piece of real estate which was sold for $650,000. These funds helped finance the initial construction of the camp.

Camp Walter Johnson is administered by The Salvation Army North & South Carolina Divisional Headquarters, in Charlotte, NC.

Instructional Athletics Program
Over 700 youth participate on an annual basis in this program to learn the importance of team play and good sportsmanship. A Christ-centered atmosphere is maintained in our pre-game devotions and prayers for each sport. Children are taught that winning here is having fun, learning fundamental skills and feeling a part of a team where he or she makes a difference. Detailed information on each sport as far as registration and program dates are available approximately 2 months before the sport begins. With no try-outs, youth can sign up to participate in the following seasonal sports:
