angel tree

The holiday season is supposed to be a time for joy and happiness as we celebrate time with our families and the birth of our Savior. For many people in Wake County, however, the holiday season is anything but that. Hunger, poverty and the cold prevent them from experiencing the joy of the season. The Salvation Army of Wake County brings the miracle of Christmas to over 15,000 people each year through the following programs:

What is the purpose of the Angel Tree?
The Angel Tree was started by The Salvation Army to provide less fortunate children with new clothing items at Christmas. Each child that is placed on the Angel Tree will also receive an assortment of new toys from the Salvation Army Toy Shop.

Who sponsors the Angel Tree and what is it?
The Salvation Army sponsors Angel Tree to provide holiday gifts for children age 12 and younger.

Where do the Angels come from?
The program is open to children/families in need who have applied/registered with The Salvation Army Christmas Cheer Program. All applicants are screened before being assisted.

When can Angels be adopted?
Angels may be adopted at sponsor locations from Friday, November 28 to Saturday, December 13. Some corporations have their own tree with Angels supplied by The Salvation Army.

Can anyone adopt an Angel?
Yes, you may adopt as many Angels as you like. This is an excellent holiday group project. If you are adopting as a group, please consider adopting several Angels. Some groups, business, and churches adopt as many as 600 Angels at one time. Request to adopt 10 or more Angels may be made on-line. Request for fewer than 10 Angels must be made at an Angel Tree sponsor location.

How do I adopt an Angel?
From November 28 through December 13, go to one of the official Angel Tree sponsor locations to adopt an Angel from the tree.

After adopting an Angel, what do I do?
Your Angel tag will provide you with the Angel’s first name, age, sex, sizes, and the item(s) they would like or need. Please purchase new gifts for your Angel and return them to the tree where you selected your Angel. Gifts may also be returned, with Angel tag intact, to The Salvation Army Community Center at 902 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh. Groups or bussinesses adopting large quantities of Angels can request pickup of their gifts.

How much should I spend?
There is no set amount to spend, but on average, each Angel should receive about 3 - 4 gifts of clothing items for children.

How are the gifts distributed?
The gifts are distributed the middle of December from the Christmas Cheer Toy Shop, using the code numbers that were assigned to the individual Angels. Parents are given a specific time to come and pick up the gifts for their children. To ensure all gifts go to the person for whom they were purchased, all gifts need to be returned to The Salvation Army by December 12.
